Welcome to my new blog!
First off, I started this blog with the intention of losing weight and generally being healthier. Since I got married and started grad school, the pounds have been inching on and my diet has changed drastically. It just kinda happens when you get busy and health takes a cut on the priority list. I used to eat a fruit or veggie with every meal and exercise at least a few times a week. I think the only healthy thing I had today were the raisins in my bagel!
I've been inspired by some friends and family who have made some healthy life changes and lost some weight too. So, I ordered some used weight watchers books (the official book and some cookbooks) and I'm determined to make some real changes despite a busy schedule and a husband who is actually trying to gain weight! I know I can do this- I've seen some other people do amazing things, I just need to stick to it and hopefully this blog will help.
I guess I need to keep in mind the reasons for doing this...especially when things get hard. First of all, I know that genetics has predisposed me to high cholesteral and diabetes and there is no time like the present to improve that. Also, I got some really cute clothes for Christmas (yup, we got to open presents early!) and I'd really like to wear them and have them hang in all the right places. Most important though, I operate under the theory that people generally feel better and more positive about themselves when they eat healthful foods and are active. I find this is most true after a good workout session and some of my favorite fresh fruit (pineapple, mango, strawberries, and peaches....yumm!)
Sooo...here we go! I hope to start soon, officially after my books come in 4-14 business days, so after Christmas.
